09 June 2023: Pit Lumps
Hi all,
I plan to use this site to keep everyone updated on things happening with Charles.
For starters, I thought a timeline of events might be of interest to some folks to get you up to speed. So here it is:
February 2023- Charles noticed an enlarged mass in right armpit
March 22, 2023- Televisit with primary care for swollen lymph node. PCP noted it could just be because of a cold or viral infection.
April 20, 2023- Ultrasound of armpit, radiologist requested a biopsy for later that day.
April 20, 2023- Needle Biopsy of larger of two lymph nodes
April 28, 2023- Biopsy results inconclusive, excisional biopsy recommended.
May 3, 2023- Met with Surgeon to discuss lymph node excision--surgeon noted the lymph nodes didn't necessarily need to be removed, could wait and see if they get smaller. Surgery scheduled for 24 May.
May 17, 2023- Ultrasound prior to lymph node removal. Results showed the axillary lymph node size was consistent with previous ultrasound and an additional abnormal lymph node was found in the supraclavicular area.
May 24, 2023- removal of 2 right axillary lymph nodes
May 31, 2023- biopsy results-consistent with Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma (NLPHL). Slides sent to NIH for confirmation.
June 2, 2023- Consult with UCSD Hematologist/Medical Oncologist, Dr. Ah-Reum Jeong. Discussed treatment options given preliminary pathology report. Work-up labs prior to chemotherapy scheduled.
June 3, 2023, Evelyn makes penuche covered rice crispy treats.
June 7, 2023-Pulmonary Functional Test. Apparently, no pulmonary issues since his results were 110% of the norm for his age. #gifted
June 8, 2023-PET Scan-results show malignancies in lower right abdominal lymph nodes. Given that he has abnormal lymph nodes above and below the diaphragm, he has Stage III NLPHL.
June 9, 2023-Oncologists orders CT scan to check for other abnormal lymph nodes that may not have shown on PET scan. Notes chemo treatment will be R-CHOP 1 day every three weeks for 6 treatments. Per Dr. Jeong, "Still a very treatable lymphoma with very favorable prognosis."
Upcoming appointments:
June 13, 2023- CT scan of neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis
June 20, 2023- Echocardiogram, appointment with Dr. Jeong
June 22, 2023- Chemo port implanted
As we know more we will share it here.
